Georgetown High School PTO

PAWS Mission Statement: The mission of PAWS is to promote academic achievement, character education, and open communication for a quality school program.

What is PAWS?

In July of 2000, a concerned parent, Jane Skinner, helped lead the effort to start a P.T.O. at Georgetown High School.  The goal was to create an organization to promote communication between the following groups of interested parties:  student, parents, staff, community, and businesses in Georgetown interested in the school.

Since all of the above groups could be seen as partners who want the school to succeed, and since the Bulldog is the mascot of Georgetown High School. it was decided that the name of the school's P.T.O. should be PAWS:  Partners Advocating Winning Schools.

Since then, PAWS has helped Georgetown High School in many ways:

  1. In the last 4 years, provided $8000 in scholarships to 17 graduating seniors.
  2. In the last 3 years, provided over $7000 for the Academic Banquet to honor the students of each grade lelvel with a GPA of 3.75 or above and those who scored at least 1100 on the SAT (or 24 on the ACT) during the previous year.  This past year, over 100 students were recognized and their families attended this event.
  3. In the last 2 years, provided over $1000 for Character Education, a program that encourages respect and self-control by rewarding students who have not received a disciplinary violation during the year to attend a party, where they have a chance to receive door prizes.
  4. Provided approximately $3000 for needed equipment/improvements for the school and students.
  5. Provided luncheons at the start and end of the school year, along with surprises during the year, to all of the teachers and staff members at GHS in order to thank, recognize, and communicate with the staff members.
  6. In the past, supported special programs like the Academic Team, the GHS Pageant, and Senior Appreciation Day.

PAWS Memberships Each individual membership is only $10.00 and we encourage students to join in addition to their parents.  Please note that PAWS needs your help, and we encourage you to join.  If you're already a member, thanks.  If you would like to join PAWS, please contact any board member or let someone in the school's front office know and we will get a membership form to you.  If you would like to make a larger donation, there are also four sponsorship levels (Pups, Bull Pups, Big Dogs, and Bulldogs), and these sponsors are displayed on the large sign at the entrance of the GHS capus.

PAWS awards scholarships to deserving GHS seniors.  Please note that while all GHS students may apply for a PAWS scholarship, one of the criteria in the selection process is membership in PAWS during the current academic year.

Thank you for considering joining PAWS.  We hope you will join us and thereby support our communty, our school, our youth, and our future.
