BACCALAUREATE SERVICE

A Baccalaureate Service will be held on May 20, 2018 at First Baptist Church. The service is for the candidates for graduation and their immediate families. The graduation candidates must arrive at the designated time and follow the graduation ceremony dress code as described below. Students who attend and arrive at the designated time will receive a ticket for the commencement.

GRADUATION DRESS CODE

Girls - cap and gown (neatly pressed), white dress (no longer than gown), white dress shoes or white sandals (no flip flops)

Boys - cap and gown (neatly pressed), white shirt, dark tie, dark long pants, dark dress shoes (no sandals, flip flops, deck shoes or sneakers), dark socks

BEHAVIOR OF GRADUATION CANDIDATES

Students are expected to behave appropriately for a formal ceremony. Any student not cooperating with any Georgetown High School personnel or law enforcement personnel will not participate in the graduation ceremony. Any student under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs will not participate in the graduation ceremony and will be escorted off the school campus by law enforcement personnel. The student will also be subject to criminal prosecution. Please do not do anything that will jeopardize your opportunity to participate in the graduation exercises.

GRADUATION PRACTICE

Graduation candidates must report to practice punctually in order to participate in the graduation ceremony. Extreme hardships will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the principal, and his decision will be final. Students who arrive at the designated time will receive a ticket for the commencement.

FEES OWED

Candidates for graduation must pay all fees owed prior to the receiving tickets to the graduation ceremony.

DIPLOMAS

Diploma covers will be handed to graduates during the graduation ceremony. Graduates must pick up their diplomas at a designated area after the ceremony.

Graduation will take place in the air conditioned GHS gymnasium. Each student will be given tickets to the ceremony in the gymnasium. No person will be allowed to enter the gymnasium without a graduation ticket. This includes babies and small children. Each student will also receive tickets to view the ceremony via closed-circuit large screen in the auditorium.

HOMECOMING COURT

All candidates for homecoming queen must have at least a 3.0 GPA (using the S. C. uniform grading scale) at the end of their junior year. GPA's will not be rounded to the next number. All candidates must be female members of the senior class (must be in senior homerooms) and must have received no discipline infractions up to and including the day of the homecoming event. Posters, buttons, flyers, etc. cannot be distributed in any form. Violations will lead to the candidate's disqualification.

PROM

The Junior-Senior Prom will be held at Winyah Indigo Society Hall on Friday, April 13, 2018 from 8:00 P.M. until 11:00 P.M. All school rules and district policies are in effect for Georgetown High students and their guests. GHS chaperones and police officers will be on duty throughout the evening. Students may not bring food or drinks into the building during the prom.

The prom is a formal event; therefore, formal attire is required. Hats or head coverings that are not part of the formal attire are not to be worn.  Males may remove jackets once inside the building, but at no time are they to remove shirts (outer shirts or undershirts). Inappropriate dancing will not be tolerated. Students who do not comply with the above guidelines will be told to leave the premises.

Students may not loiter outside. Students may not return to their vehicles to retrieve items such as cameras, pocketbooks, etc., or to put jackets, wallets, or any other items in vehicles.  Once students leave the building (for any reason), they may not return to the Prom.

Prom tickets may be purchased for $25.00 initially. This price will increase during the school year. The deadlines to purchase tickets and ticket prices will be posted throughout the school. Seniors who purchased prom tickets as juniors will not have to purchase a prom ticket.

Ticket prices for guests (freshmen, sophomores, and guests who are not GHS students) are $15.00.  Each person who attends the prom must have his or her own ticket.

The students nominated for prom queen and prom princess must be female students at GHS. The students nominated for prom king and prom prince must be male students at GHS. Those students must have paid prom fees before being nominated. They must also have at least an overall B average and must have no discipline infractions during the current school year. Voting for the queen, princess, king and prince will take place during a designated homeroom period.

CHARACTER EDUCATION PROGRAM

Georgetown High School, in partnership with the "First Tee" character program, strives to have a proactive approach in creating deliberate methods of shaping good character in its students. The program promotes core character traits. These traits are modeled by adults in the school. They are studied, discussed, celebrated and practiced by all school members. Everyone in the school is held accountable for these standards of conduct.

TAG Program:

Students will be recognized for demonstrating positive character traits. Names will be entered in a drawing for prizes.

Top Dog / Kennel Club:

Twice each semester, teachers choose a student to become a member of the Kennel Club. These students exemplify good character traits and serve as positive role models at Georgetown High School. Each student's picture is placed in the Kennel Club display case.

 Students of the Month:

Teachers nominate and vote for four students (one from each grade level) to represent Georgetown High School as students of the month. These students are outstanding citizens who consistently display the core character traits of kindness, honesty, responsibility, respect, and fairness. In order to be selected as a student of the month, a student must have no discipline infractions entered into the. These students receive a GHS Character Education certificate, a free pass to a GHS sporting event and their pictures are displayed in the Student Center. A student may not receive this award more than once a school year.

HONOR ROLL REWARD PROGRAM

Names of students who make the honor roll are posted in the Student Center at the end of each midterm and again at the end of each term (See "Academics."). The honor roll students' names will also be placed in The Georgetown Times.

CLASS OF 2018 AWARDS CEREMONY

The Senior Awards Ceremony will be held in the GHS auditorium at 6:00 P.M. on May 2018. Scholarship and award recipients must be in graduating class. Students' attire must be appropriate for a dignified and solemn ceremony.

BRONZE BULLDOG AWARD

A bronze bulldog is awarded to a male and female of the graduating class. The recipients must have at least a 3.0 GPA and should have actively participated in sports, organizations, or clubs during their high school career. Major factors to consider are positive character traits and significant contributions to Georgetown High School and community. Candidates must have no discipline infractions during current school year.

FACULTY AND SENIOR SUPERLATIVES

Candidates for faculty and senior superlatives must be assigned to a senior homeroom, must have no discipline infractions entered into the PowerSchool computer program during current school year, and must maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average using the S.C. uniform grading scale. GPA's will not be rounded to the next number.
